An Atrosity, Actors and Alliteration.
Get the entire school together, put them on an assortment of busses (a topic we will cover later), drive into providence RI, watch a 3 hour performance of Richard III, and repeat the first steps in reverse. What could go wrong? Surprisingly not much. What has come to be almost tradition at Tabor, every year there is an all school trip to a Shakespearean performance. This is a rough idea in concept; 500 hundred teenagers are not thrilled to sit still for 3 hours let alone well being subjected to authentic thespian performances of Shakespeare. The Tabor administration decided to organize the event anyway. Surprisingly what transpired was poetry in motion.
The entire school arose as per normal to converge on the flagpole at 8:00. This was a crucial point in the construction of the day for it did not have a sturdy foundation the entire trip could fail from the beginning. As the students walked towards their destination a line of assorted busses came in to view. Upon further inspection there was appeared to be four or five busses which stood out from the rest, coach busses, every student’s deepest yearning when they depart on an athletic or academic voyage was idly sitting in the Tabor parking lot.
One of two thoughts ran through the student population depending on their current grade level. Seniors believed they were being treated to a comfortable ride to the Thursday matinee. Every non-senior already began planning where they would sit on the coach bus during the all school trip their senior year. As the students drew near a short series of events executed themselves with impeccable timing. The students had been assigned bus numbers earlier in the week via email and began to search for the appropriate vehicle. In the following minutes in developed that it was not the seniors who had been allotted the coach busses, it was not the faculty, the juniors, or even the freshmen, it had instead been the lowly freshmen who began filing in and filling up the plush seats of the warm coach bus. Surprisingly there was no revolt, no senior class uprising or synchronized chanting of a specific high school grade. Instead the rest of the school climbed aboard their dilapidated yellow school buses. There were only the occasional empty threats to writes a blog post on the subject to remember the incident even took place. The rest of the day ran smoothly, forty to fifty individual naps, a flawless performance and an even less flawed standing ovation closed out the trip. The incident of the coach bus in the morning was never spoken of again and the tabor community went about their lives as if nothing had happened. The students and faculty should be applauded for how effortless the day seemed to transpire. In reality we were all working together to achieve the same goal, the students were happy because they got out of going to classes, and the teachers were happy because they got out of teaching classes. A great example of how well organized and populated the Tabor Academy community is.

I really enjoyed reading this blog. I loved the sense of humor and the praise to the senior class. However, you made a couple typos and some of your wording was hard for me to understand. I agree that the performance was really good and that the trip as a whole went really well. I think students will be less cynical about seeing plays because this one was so good.
Nice blog man. I like the idea and I remember being one of the kids to say what a good blog topic. The reaction though of the seniors is a great example of why we are seniors. We made no fuss, no one was angry, and we went on with our daily lives. Had it been that everyone got a coach bus except the freshman a war would have broken out and it would have been heard of for weeks. This is the difference and this is just another example that shows we are ready to move on to bigger things. I also loved the humor involved. It was presented very well and the pictures at the end were great.
That was a pretty funny piece, some good humor (finally) to the blogs. It is odd that the freshman got coach busses, I would like to know who’s bright idea that was. This really factors into how overly well treated and protected the freshmen are this year, I mean come on. Remeber the whole freshman camping trip away from school on the weekend of the first dance? And how about when the teachers flipped after the seniors chanted freshman. Oh the poor baby’s they felt uncomfortable. How about us our freshmen year, oh yeah! as I recall we were treated like crap by the seniors! And guess what! no teaches did anything about it. realllly funny if you ask me.
I think Sam has a great point about the way the seniors handled the bus situation. The class showed our maturity by not causing a scene and going along with the change. Instead of riding in comfort we made up for it by making the bus ride memorable. It was a great trip and it was great to see the seniors getting along so well. I also liked the fact that we had one of our own give a spectacular standing ovation for the actors. I was very impressed when the actress made a point of saying how great of an audience the Tabor community was and how much more mature they were on a whole compared to some other schools. That maturity comes from the top and that means that our senior class has been doing a great job of leadership this year.
Great blog. I loved the use of humor in it. It’s funny that the freshman go coach busses and we got yellow busses. It was a great trip and everyone on my bus seemed to enjoy the ride there and back regardless of the bus situation. I think that our school really showed how great we are by being respectful, yet encouraging during the play. A lot of students were skeptical about the play because previous ones had not been so good, but I believe that our class really enjoyed this one. Another great day to be a seawolf.
